NYC's ghostly ship graveyard featured in new documentary
About a dozen ghostly ships in various states of decay sit in an isolated corner of New York City, abandoned decades ago. Now a new 32-minute documentary, "Graves of Arthur Kill," features up-close and rare footage of the graveyard's most gorgeous wrecks.
The Arthur Kill ship graveyard, located in a tidal strait between Staten Island and New Jersey, was created in the years following World War II. The adjacent scrapyard started to buy scores of outdated vessels for parts, but the shipbreakers couldn't keep up with the influx of boats.
