Louisiana port installs innovative security system

A Louisiana port recently installed a data-sharing surveillance system that ranks among the most progressive port security technology in the nation.

In partnership with national security firm Crescent Garden, the Greater Lafourche Port Commission installed an advanced video analytics application to enhance its high-tech video surveillance technology.

The progressive surveillance system permits local, state and federal law enforcement to receive live alerts if irregular behavior is detected. The port commission said the data-sharing technology would improve emergency response times and situational awareness during security breaches and other incidents that require action.

"The Port Commission was pleased to work with CGI to integrate BRS Labs' video analytics into Port Fourchon's video management system and the GLPC-C4 system," said the Port Commission's director of information technology, April Danos.

The Department of Defense developed the Knowledge Display and Aggregation System (KDAS), which serves as the core of the port's incident command and control system.
