HP Signs $62M Deal to Implement Railway Energy Savings in Kazakhstan

HP Enterprise Services signed a 13-year, $62 million services and IT infrastructure agreement with JSC TransTelecom, an arm of the railway operator for the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy.

Under the agreement, HP announced it would modernize the rail operator's infrastructure to allow them to better analyze information and facilitate energy use reduction.

KTZ said it expects to realize potential energy savings of 7 percent in electrical consumption and 13 percent in diesel fuel use.
 
HP will serve as the prime contractor, implementing and supporting the KTZ Traction Power Dispatch Automated Control System, an automated railway energy management system (REMS).
  
"The railway is one of the largest and most critical components of the Kazakhstan transportation infrastructure, so efficiency and reliability is of strategic importance to our government, businesses, citizens and surrounding nations," said Askar Mamin, chief executive officer and vice president, JSC TransTelecom in a statement.
