Seattle’s Kvichak Marine wins USCG newbuild order

The USCG recently added an additional 7 vessels to its contract with Seattle-based Kvichak Marine Industries, which won a five-year contract from the agnecy in 2001 for the construction of 32-foot Transportable Port Security Boats, according to a Kvichak statement.

The TPSB, which includes shock-mitigating seats to minimize crew fatigue on extended missions, is an all-aluminum ship that’s operated by a crew of four. It features ballistic armor protection and up to four mounted weapons for increased mission capability and crew safety during tactical operations, the statement said.

Kvichak says the TPSB, powered by twin Yanmar 315 hp diesel engines with Bravo 1-XR outdrives, supports security, maritime law enforcement, and search and rescue operations in coastal areas. The ship can maneuver in as little as 24 inches of water and can operate safely in 8-foot seas and up to 30 knots of wind. It has a top speed of 45 knots and a fuel capacity of 150 gallons.

The company reports it has delivered 52 vessels to the USCG to date, and will deliver the 7 recently orders ships in early 2015.
