UK firm offers real-time online locator for train freight

UK company FreightArranger, an online logistics firm that specializes in rail efficiency, recently completed operational trials for real-time system to track cargo on trains.

The locator software provides a simple enquiry and booking screen on the Web to track rail freight. It is designed for single or multiple container moves. The online system refreshes every five-seconds, which is faster than competing products that usually have hourly refresh rates, or sometimes every four hours.

"Our locator is the first of its type for rail freight," said Managing Director Nick Radcliffe. "Its speed of refreshing data every 5 seconds, and the ability to have self-customized alerts make it the most advanced system available today."

Radcliffe gave the example that email or desktop alerts could include could be set for a number of minutes before the goods are due to arrive, or that the system could notify shippers if a train is running more than a certain amount of time behind schedule.
