China's electronics exports slipped in June

China’s exports of both mobile phones and LCD televisions “declined unexpectedly” in June, according to market research firm iSuppli.

Exports of mobile phones in the month fell 1% from May, iSuppli reports, while LCD-TV exports fell 3%, to 4.3 million units, from 4.4 million in May. Channel inventory in both categories rose in the month.

Kevin Wang, director of China research at iSuppli, said in a statement that LCD television inventories in the channel “piled up” after the country’s May 1 Labor Day holiday. He adds that LCD TV OEMs placed fewer orders in July due to “less than optimistic news regarding demand in the United States and Europe.”

Meanwhile, the research firm said cell phone exports were affected by a government investigation into gray market handsets. According to iSuppli, shipments of gray market handsets in June were down 25% from May. The research firm also said that end-market demand slowed in emerging markets.

Other products that saw export decline in June include digital still cameras and air conditioners.
