TSI Terminals utilizes new wireless tracking software

NetMotion Wireless, a provider of mobile productivity and management software, and Psion Teklogix, Inc., a global provider of mobile computing solutions, jointly announced that TSI Terminal Systems Inc. is using wireless software from NetMotion Wireless and mobile devices from Psion Teklogix to assist in the management of its container terminal operations at Port Metro Vancouver complex in British Columbia.

Psion Teklogix manufactures what it terms “Workabout Pro rugged handheld” computers and related technology designed for mobile workers at the marine terminal.

The NetMotion Wireless Mobility XE mobile VPN “maintains secure, reliable connections for those devices as they transition between networks and encounter coverage gaps throughout a worker's day,” the company said in a statement.

TSI Terminal Systems has already deployed Psion Teklogix's mobile devices at its container terminals in New York and New Jersey.

Workers stationed at the gates reportedly use the Workabout Pro devices to inspect containers for damage.

"The Psion Teklogix Workabout Pro devices provide precise and reliable tracking to help make the inspection process of containers and other checks faster and simpler," said Kurt Jesson, senior terminal support specialist responsible for data communications infrastructure with TSI.

"With real-time data, our team is able to meet tight shipping schedules and run at peak efficiency. Mobility XE made a huge difference keeping workers connected. It really reduced our support calls," he said.
