China's first fully automated container terminal on track for 2014 opening

The Xiamen Yuanhai container terminal, which will be the first fully automated container terminal in China, will start operations in May 2014, according to reports.

Following a contractual agreement between the Xiamen port, China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company and China Communications Construction Company Limited, Xiamen started the construction of the Yuanhai Automated Container Terminal in October 2012.

Located in the Haicang Port area in Xiamen, the prospective Yuanhai Automated Container Terminal is nearly 538 meters long and 308 meters deep, and claims zero emissions.

The terminal will be China's first fully automated terminal equipped with advanced technology, with a predicted annual container volume of between 780,000 - 910,000 TEUs.
