CN adds 200 "eco" containers to fleet

Canadian National announced it has added 200 more EcoTherm containers to its fleet that can carry products such as food, beverages, paints and pharmaceuticals at low temperatures.

The Canadian Class One railroad said its EcoTherm fleet stands at almost 500 units, and claims it is the largest such fleet in North America.

CN also announced the purchase of 25 EcoRide chassis that the railroad said weighs 15 percent less than conventional chassis and are equipped with aerodynamic features such as side skirts and low-rolling resistance tires. CN says that containers delivered on EcoRide chassis consume eight to 11 percent less fuel than containers delivered on traditional chassis.
