Brazil terminal taps APS for OCR

Terminal de Contêineres de Paranaguá in Brazil has selected APS Technology Group for optical character recognition software for its marine and intermodal operations, according to an announcement.

TCP is Brazil’s third largest terminal operator, handling 1.2 million TEUs per year, and APS said its OCR on-dock rail solution would be the first of its kind to be used in that country.

“The solution will automate the container identification process at the gate and rail entry and exit points with the collection of high-resolution images,” APS said in a statement.

TCP is in the midst of major investments aimed at increasing capacity and efficiency, with terminal productivity increasing from 30 to 56 moves per hour last month, according to APS.

“Since the change of TCP shareholding structure last year, when the private equity fund Advent International acquired 50 percent of TCP, we launched several initiatives to increase efficiency and productivity.” said Luiz Antonio Alves, TCP’s chief financial officer.
