Liebherr launches maritime crane simulators

Liebherr recently announced its range of maritime crane simulators, which trains port crane operators in a safe virtual environment.

The "highly immersive" training tool provides crane driver training for the company's ship to shore, rubber tire gantry, mobile harbor and offshore cranes.

Liebherr Simulations helps trainees improve skills in a virtual maritime environment, the company said, eliminating the possibility of damage to equipment and personnel.

Each simulation is set in a typical maritime environment where numerous parameters can be modified according to training requirements, including day-time or night-time operation, weather conditions, kind of cargo and vessel size. The instructor station has control over the simulation, and student progress can be tracked over time.

The ability of the simulator to emulate harsh environmental conditions, said Liebherr, lets experienced operators and trainees gain experience operating under challenging conditions in a safe environment, reducing the loss of productivity that occurs with on-crane training.
