Transnet Port Terminals receives large Liebherr crane order

Transnet Port Terminals of South Africa has taken delivery of four Liebherr ship-to-shore cranes and 18 rubber-tired gantry cranes.

Liebherr Container Cranes in Ireland delivered the cranes.

The STS cranes will have an outreach of 65 meters, a span of 30.48 meters, and a back reach of 19 meters. They will be 41 meters tall with a capacity of 65 tons when configured with a twin lift spreader. The STS cranes can handle container ships of up to 24 rows across, a company spokesperson said.

The RTGs can span seven containers and a truck lane and can stack up to 5 containers high, the manufacturer said. The RTGs will be delivered to Ngqura port and fitted with auto steering, container location recognition systems and ultrasonic RTG to RTG anti-collision systems, the company said.
