Kongsberg Maritime announced that it has been selected by L-3 MAPPS to provide the CCTV system for the Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) new class of Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships.
AOPS is a Canadian government procurement project for the RCN. The project is expected to equip Canadian Forces with six naval ice-capable offshore patrol ships able to assert and enforce sovereignty in Canada’s waters where and when necessary, including the Arctic. The first Arctic Offshore Patrol Ship is scheduled to be delivered in 2018.
L-3 MAPPS is one of the Tier 1 suppliers to Irving Shipbuilding, the main contractor delivering the AOPS vessels as a part of the nation’s shipbuilding procurement strategy.
Forming a key part of the Integrated Platform Management System, the CCTV system will provide crews with real time video surveillance to assist with

mission critical operations and provide increased safety, security and situational awareness on board the new built AOPS vessels.
Deliverables from Kongsberg Maritime will include a combination of harsh environment CCTV cameras and cameras that have been adapted to meet the demands of RCN and the Arctic environment. This includes an upgraded, HD version of the Kongsberg Maritime Helicopter Operations Surveillance System, which will assist in monitoring take-off and landing operations of the CH-148 Cyclone naval helicopters that the vessels will support.
