New Jersey’s Maher Terminals orders 27 Kalmar straddle carriers

Kalmar, a subsidiary of Cargotec, has received an order for 27 straddle carriers from long-term customer Maher Terminals, a container terminal operator at the Port of New Jersey.

The order is expected to be delivered during the spring of 2016.

Maher Terminals’ is renewing and expanding its straddle carrier fleet with environmentally friendly diesel-electric power, which utilizes U.S. EPA-mandate Tier 4 final emission controls.

The Kalmar ESC350 diesel-electric straddle carriers are rated for 45 tons with twin 6-meter containers or 36 tons with single containers. They will be tested in Kalmar's testing facilities and delivered fully upright, allowing shorter installation and commissioning time on site.

Maher Terminals has launched a ‘Sustainable Port Infrastructure Project’ in order to strengthen operations while lessening environmental impact.
