Shanghai starts phase 4 of Yangshan port

Shanghai is embarking on the fourth phase of the Yangshan Deep-Water Port, which is expected to have a handling capacity of 6.3 million TEUs by 2017.

The fourth phase will implement a high-tech automated system to manage the port’s increased container capacity.

After its completion, the Shanghai port will have an annual capacity of 40 million TEUs, equal to one-tenth of the world’s annual production rate.
