Cargotec to outfit Kalmar engines to be EU-compliant

Cargo equipment provider Cargotec announced it would fit its Kalmar products with engines that use Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) or Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technology to deliver near-zero NOx and harmful particulate emissions.

The change complies with the EU Stage IIIB and US EPA Tier 4i emission regulations, which govern all off-road equipment powered by engines of 130kW and above.

"These engines combine high power output with efficient fuel consumption. Furthermore, there is no increase in service intervals or costly downtime as the system is designed to last the lifetime of the engines. Their introduction shows our ongoing commitment to environmental protection and a desire to reduce running costs for our customers wherever possible," said Jorma Tirkkonen, senior vice resident, RDE services for Cargotec
