uDrove releases electronic onboard recorder for truckers

This week uDrove released what they call the "most affordable Electronic Onboard Recorder (EOBR) on the market," at $379.99.

"Until now, EOBR technology was a luxury for only the larger trucking companies, with first year setup costs in the thousands of dollars," said Nick Reed, uDrove product manager in a statement. "With our new EOBR unit, trucking companies can get the benefits of the technology for hundreds instead of thousands."

The new uDrove EOBR device is intended to help trucking companies improve efficiency and automate hours of service, and communicates with uDrove's compliance software to automatically fill out data that drivers would otherwise have to input manually. The "plug 'n go" device can just be plugged in to the truck's diagnostic port.

The Federal MAP 21 Transportation bill, passed in summer 2012, requires all drivers to track hours of service using electronic logging devices, possibly beginning as early as 2014. uDrove says its EOBR will help trucking companies comply with the new regulations, and that fuel/mileage tracking is performed electronically to simplify IFTA reporting.
