Freight industry signs on to “green freight” declaration in Asia

A group of global freight firms, manufacturers, and industry associations signed on to the "Private Sector Declaration on Green Freight in Asia towards a Green Economy," with what the organizations jointly announced was their support of green freight initiatives and programs in Asia.

The declaration includes the group’s goals to have national green freight programs in Asia, the reduction of fossil fuel dependency, improved air quality, and minimized CO2 emissions “that contribute to climate change, while maintaining economic growth.”

The list of signatories to the initiative includes DHL, TNT, UPS, Caux Round Table – Japan, Keppel Logistics, Schneider Electric, Taipei Computer Association, Diageo, and Tonglit Logistic.

The group of companies behind the green freight declaration are also the founding members of the Green Freight Asia Network of companies and associations involved in freight transport in Asia.

"For a globally operating company like DHL it is most important to have aligned approaches regarding green freight programs. That’s why we are engaged in all existing or developing programs (US, Europe and Asia). We are looking forward to working together with our customers, suppliers and even competitors in the Green Freight Asia Network,” said Bjorn Hannapel, senior expert GoGreen at DH.
