3-D print replicas of 20 million-year-old fossils

African Fossils, an online archive of prehistoric East African artifacts, features 40 digitized fossils available for download. Armed with a 3-D printer, anyone can use the files to generate modern replicas of the ancient artifacts.

The 3D renders allows tactile exploration of fossils representing prehistoric animals, human ancestors, and ancient tools. Captured using Autodesk software, an SLR camera, and often the original specimen, these renderings bring us closer than most will ever get to holding ancient artifacts.
