Transas delivers vessel traffic system to Corsican port

The Port of Ajaccio, the main commercial port in southern Corsica, is now equipped with the latest generation maritime Vessel Traffic Surveillance system from Transas.

Transas delivered and installed its Navi-Monitor surveillance solution to monitor and manage the vessel traffic within the port in real-time mode. The Harbor Master's Office represents the heart of the system, according to a company statement. The Operator Display Units ensure the operational marine traffic picture is available in real-time and based on data transmitted from several high-performance sensors including radar, antennas and VHF radio, AIS base station and weather station. This allows

port officers to fulfill their daily tasks and responsibilities related to maritime safety and security in accordance with the State Transportation Code.

The VTS system installation is a part of the ambitious modernization plan aiming at improving overall port capacity and increasing safe navigation in its operational areas. The system allows for surveillance of the Ajaccio Bay and Ricanto area, as well as for control of the access channel. Transas said the system would reduce collision risks, protect the environment and help to optimize the use of port resources.
