Knapp to build $128M shuttle system for Hugo Boss logistics center

Knapp has secured a contract with Hugo Boss to build the largest shuttle system in the world for the German fashion and lifestyle house, automating its new distribution center in Filderstadt bei Stuttgart, Germany.

Hugo Boss will pay almost $128 million for the project, located near the Stuttgart airport. Start-up of the 251,000 square feet logistics center is planned for 2014.

The OSR Shuttle is the world's largest picking and storage system of its kind, with 400,000 storage locations. It can react to the demands of different sales channels, and features direct storage of different load carriers, efficient picking, and a scalable, space-saving rack system.

Picking is carried out at ergonomically designed workstations, according to the goods-to-person procedure. Goods-to-person means the order picker stays in one place, and the system brings the merchandise to them.

Knapp, based in Austria, is an international company that adapts technology to automate retail distribution centers and warehouses.
