DP World orders 19 quay cranes and 50 gantry cranes for new terminal

This week DP World ordered 19 ship-to-shore quay cranes and 50 rail-mounted gantry cranes for its 4 million-TEU capacity Terminal 3 development at the main Jebel Ali Port. The port terminal operations giant signed agreements with both local and international companies.

Trans Gulf Port Cranes of Abu Dhabi will supply and install 10 STS quay cranes and 25 RMG cranes, while Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries will supply and install 9 STS and 25 RMG cranes.

The new container terminal will be 1,860 meters long, with a depth of 17 meters, designed to handle the next generation of VLCCs.

Capacity at Jebel Ali will reach 19 million TEUs when Terminal 3 launches in 2014.
