AAPA names winners of 2014 environmental and IT awards
The American Association of Port Authorities announced the winners of its 2014 Environmental Improvement and Information Technology award competitions.
This year’s IT Award winner is the Port of Los Angeles, which submitted its "Cyber Security Operations Center" entry in the port operations and management systems category. The AAPA IT competition recognizes port technology accomplishments in port operations, management systems and intermodal freight transportation.
The AAPA bestowed four Environmental Improvement Awards in four different categories.
The Port of Portland won the 2014 Environmental Improvement Award for stakeholder awareness, education and involvement for its "Environmental Initiatives at Seaports Worldwide: A Snapshot of Best Practices" entry. In the environmental enhancement category, the Georgia Ports Authority won for its entry, "Voluntary Diesel Reduction Through Investment in Equipment."
The Port of Tacoma received the award in the category of comprehensive environmental management with its submittal, "Biofiltration: West Hylebos Log Yard." And finally, the winner of AAPA’s 2014 EIA in the mitigation category is Port Tampa Bay, with its successful "McKay Bay Restoration" project.
Winners will be recognized during the awards luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 13, at AAPA’s 103rd Annual Convention and Exposition in Houston, hosted by the Port of Houston Authority Nov. 9-13.
