Health care IT firm Premier to acquire supply chain software company Aperek

Charlotte, S.C.-based Premier, Inc., a company that uses big data to improve health care delivery, announced it will purchase Aperek, a company that provides supply chain software solutions for the healthcare industry, for approximately $48.5 million.

Raleigh-based Aperek's clients include UNC Health Care, UNC School of Medicine and South Georgia Medical Center. The company's website

"Looking ahead, we expect to further leverage our market-leading data analytics platform, aligned delivery channel and collaborative member relationships in our ongoing commitment to deliver effective solutions to the marketplace and drive long-term performance for our shareholders," said Susan DeVore, Premier president and CEO, in a statement. "A key element supporting this strategy is our capital deployment plan, which includes acquisitions that complement and enhance our existing capabilities.

For the fiscal year ended June 30, Premier reported net revenue of $911 million, up 5 percent from 2013. The firm has reportedly been on an acquisition spree since it raised $874 million through an IPO last October.
