PNW air transport partners launch biofuel initiative
A collective of Pacific Northwest air transport organizations and regional academia announced the “Sustainable Aviation Fuels Northwest” initiative that will analyze “biomass options” for a renewable jet fuel.
The partners in the biofuel study are Alaska Airlines, Boeing, Portland International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Spokane International Airport and Washington State University.
The group, which is funding the project, claimed this would be the first of its kind regional analysis of this type of biofuel that could include including algae, agriculturally based oilseeds such as camelina, wood byproducts and other properties unique to the Pacific Northwest. The project is expected to be completed in approximately six months.
