Konecranes receives $24M order from Pelindo III
Konecranes has made a deal to deliver an automated rubber tired gantry crane system to terminal operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia III (Pelindo III), which will be the world's first commercially operational auto-unloading system, according to a company press release. Delivery of the $24 million order is scheduled for 2015.
Konecranes said the order includes 11 ARTG cranes and remote operating stations, as well as container yard automation infrastructure such as intelligent container stack gates.
"Our shipping line customers demand reliable and predictable container handling above all, and the Konecranes ARTG system will enable us to provide this and allow us to streamline our internal processes," said Husein Latief, director of commercial and business development at Pelindo III.
State-owned Pelindo III aims to expand its TPKS container terminal at Tanjung Emas Port in Semarang, Central Java, as part of a government program to develop a nationwide freight transport system. TPKS has a current capacity of 500,000 TEUs, the statement said, and the ARTG system will increase the terminal's handling capacity to 800,000 TEUs within the next five years, according to Latief.
The ARTG system is comprised of electric 16-wheel RTGs with active load control and GPS auto-steering, remote operating stations, truck guidance systems, intelligent gates for the container stacks, interface for miscellaneous container yard infrastructure, and automation software.
