The Smart Fleet Trucking Strategy is a three-year plan to develop efficiency and reliability within the container truck sector and reinforce port relationships with supply chain partners. Port Metro Vancouver selected Webtech Wireless GPS to help reduce wait times, decreased dispatch office call volumes, lower vehicle idling times, and improve overall operational efficiency, according to the Webtech statement. In 2012 and 2013, Port Metro Vancouver installed more than 1,000 Webtech Wireless GPS Locators in its Truck-Licensing-System-approved drayage trucks. An additional 1,000 Locators will be installed and added to the program by July 2014. The Webtech Wireless GPS Locators use satellite positioning and cellular communication to send real-time vehicle location data to dispatch offices, enabling greater visibility of vehicle activity, routing, congestion, and idle times. Webtech says the data collected helps fleet managers make operational adjustments and gives stakeholders a transparent view of fleet operations the port.
