Schneider Logistics to pay $21M in class action warehouse worker lawsuit

Schneider Logistics Inc. is settling a class action lawsuit for $21 million. Schneider Logistics Inc. is settling a class action lawsuit for $21 million. California workers brought the civil lawsuit, claiming they were underpaid while working at Walmart distribution centers.

The proposed agreement, which must be approved by the court, was filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles on May 13.

Workers at Walmart's Mira Loma distribution center, run by Schneider Logistics, said they were paid less than required by law in unsafe working conditions. The lawsuit covered 1,800 workers at three warehouses.

The suit, Carrillo vs. Schneider Logistics et al, was filed in 2011. Walmart was added as a defendant in 2013, but was not required to participate in the settlement.

"Schneider manages its operations with integrity and respect for its associates, subcontractors and customers. When we utilize third-party vendors, as we originally did in managing the warehouse work at the Mira Loma (Eastvale) facility, we contractually require full compliance with all required laws and expect that all parties conduct business ethically," Schneider Logistics said in a statement.

"Our customers hold us to the highest standards, and we in turn hold our vendors to the same high standards. We are deeply disappointed when those third-party vendors do not live up to our standards and fail to fulfill their contractual and legal responsibilities."
