Virtual customer service reps to materialize at NY area airports

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced this week the July launch of “virtual customer care representatives” at JFK, LaGuardia and Newark airports.

The 6-month rental of the digital avatars, 2-D projections that will help guide travelers to their gates, will cost $180,000, according to Authority spokesman Ron Marsico. To buy the digital projections, airports will need to pay $250,000 for each one. It is the first time North American airports will try the hologram technology, similar to the well-publicized hologram of the late rapper Tupac Shakur at April’s Coachella music festival.
