State security clearance no longer required for port workers in Florida

Shipping and logistics companies in Florida are expected save on average $200 per employee thanks to a new law signed by Governor Rick Scott that state security clearance is no longer required to gain entry to the ports there.

“As the best place for international companies to import and export their products, Florida’s 14 deepwater ports will now be able to compete with any port in the Southeast or on the entire Eastern seaboard,” the governor said in a statement.

Federal security clearance is still mandated at all U.S. ports.
