Kalmar snags huge orders from Malaysian port and Eurogate

Kalmar, a division of Cargotec, recently received two big orders—one to deliver nine diesel-electric straddle carriers to Eurogate and one to upgrade seven ship-to-shore (STS) cranes at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) in Malaysia.

The nine electric straddle carriers will be delivered to Eurogate's Hamburg Container Terminal during the fourth quarter of 2016.

"Protecting the environment is a high priority at Eurogate, and investing in Kalmar diesel-electric straddle carriers contributes to our goal of continuously reducing the company's ecological

footprint by cutting fuel usage and exhaust emissions," said Peter Zielinski, managing director of the Hamburg terminal.

The PTP order is the largest crane upgrade project to date globally for Kalmar, with a price tag of more than $22.9 million. Site work is scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2016.

PTP is located on the Straits of Malacca, the busiest shipping lane in the world, and has efficient road, rail and air connections. The terminal had an annual capacity of 9.1 million TEUs in 2015 and PTP is equipped with 57 super post-Panamax cranes.
