Microsoft and Nokia sign phone tech agreement

Microsoft and Nokia have signed an agreement worth "billions of dollars" that will include Windows Phones being offered by Nokia and both companies providing technology to each other's devices.

"At the highest level, we have entered into a win-win partnership," Nokia CEO Stephen Elop said in a statement.

"It is the complementary nature of our assets, and the overall competitiveness of that combined offering, that is the foundation of our relationship," Elop said.

Nokia will offer mapping, navigation, and "certain location-based" services to the Windows Phone, among other features, the Finnish company said.

Microsoft said it would provide Bing search services on Nokia devices as well as advertising, gaming, social media and other services.

Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft said Nokia "will receive payments measured in the billions of dollars."
