Asia and Europe prepare for Maersk Line's Triple E vessels, the world's largest

Asian and European ports are preparing for the arrival of Maersk Line's massive Triple E ships in late June. The largest vessels on the ocean will be "taller that a 20-story building, wider than most freeways and 12 times longer than a blue whale," according to the Globe and Mail.

No port in North or South America can currently accommodate the new ships, and neither will the newly expanded Panama Canal in 2015. So the Triple Es will sail on the China/Europe trade route, traversing the Suez Canal.

The ships are named Triple Es for the three main principles behind their construction -- economy of scale, energy efficiency and environmental improvement. They will each have an 18,000 TEU capacity, at 400 meters long, 59 meters wide and 73 meters high.
