World largest Ro-Ro vessel makes the rounds

The world's largest Ro-Ro vessel, Wallenius Wilhelmsen's recently launched MV Tønsberg, made its most recent call at the Port of Tacoma (pictured here).

The 870-foot-long "Mark V" class ship has nine decks for vehicles and rolling stock and was built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan.

The Oslo-based ocean carrier said the second Mark V vessel is scheduled for delivery in August with two more coming in 2012.

Wallenius said the new big ships would consume 15 to 20 percent less fuel per voyage.
