MacGregor lands order for 60 cargo cranes from Chinese shipyards

MacGregor, the engineering arm of Cargotec, recently landed a massive order from five Chinese shipyards for a total of 60 bulk-handling cargo cranes, according to a company statement.

The orders, inked in the first quarter of 2014, are bound for 15 bulk carriers and various owners, the statement said.

The company reports that two 37,500-ton bulkers on order at Yangzhou Gouyo shipyard and four 67,000-ton bulk and log handling vessels being built at the Zheijiang Zhenge shipyard will each be equipped with four MacGregor marine cranes with variable frequency drive.

Dayang shipyard has two 63,000-ton bulk carriers that will each install four of the company's electro-hydraulic type marine cranes, according to Cargotec. And finally, two 61,000-ton bulk vessels being built at NACKS shipyard and five 61,000-ton bulkers at Natong Huatai shipyard will also feature four electro-hydraulic marine cranes per vessel.

"Our cranes easily meet all the demands of the bulk handling sector, which is one of the most demanding marine environments," said Mikael Hägglund, the sales manager of the crane division. "With all machinery well protected inside the housing, the cranes are well-prepared for this duty."
