Crowley joins Trident Alliance to push strict sulfur compliance

Crowley Maritime Corp. has joined the Trident Alliance, a coalition of shipping companies and operators interested in strict enforcement of existing maritime sulfur regulations.

Because sulfur-restricting regulations result in higher fuel costs, many operators have violated regulations by burning cheaper, non-compliant, higher sulfur fuels

Members of the Trident Alliance work together to improve enforcement of these regulations, holding each operator accountable and to eliminate the

competitive disadvantages that result from deliberate non-compliance.

"The threat of weak enforcement of sulfur regulations is escalating fast. Responsible industry is taking the initiative to mitigate this threat, serving the best interests of the environment and human health as well as creating a level playing field for business. By speaking with one united voice, we have the greatest chance to bring about change," said Roger Strevens, Trident Alliance chairman, on the organization’s website.
