Dubai World logistics district speeds up processing of local goods

The new free zone at Al Maktoum International airport has devised a "smart" electronic system to speed up processing of entry permits for local goods.

This week, Dubai World Central’s Logistics District activated the new system which is intended to reduce the time taken to issue permits for the entry, storage and exit of local goods to and from the free zone, reported Emirates247.

The initiative is part of a wider commitment by DWC to deploy new technological solutions across its districts in accord with a government ambition to transform Dubai into a "smart city."

DWC’s Logistics District is the first free zone in Dubai to invest in developing a such a system for

transporting goods, Mohsen Ahmad, vice-president of the Logistics District, DWC, reportedly claimed.

He explained that there have historically been difficulties controlling and monitoring the movement of goods into, within and out of the free zone, and that the new system offers "unprecedented smoothness in inventory and monitoring of goods electronically and in issuing entry permits online around the clock."

"To enter the free zone, customers need only to present the number of the entry permit they get when registering online," Ahmad added.
