Siemens and Associated British Ports invest $500M in wind energy

Siemens and Associated British Ports are investing $511 million in wind turbine manufacturing and installation facilities in northeast England, creating up to 1,000 jobs, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

Siemens said it would invest $266 million in the Green Port Hull construction and service facility and a rotor-blade manufacturing factory in Paull, in East Riding.
Associated British Ports will invest $249 million in the Green Port Hull development, Siemens said.

"We invest in markets with reliable conditions that can ensure that factories can work to capacity," Michael Suess, a member of the managing board of Siemens and CEO of the energy sector, said in a statement. "The British energy policy creates a favorable framework for the expansion of offshore wind energy."

The Green Port Hull complex in northeast England is scheduled to open in early 2016, Siemens said.
