Hutchison Port Holdings taps APS for automated gate system in Mexico

Global terminal operator Hutchison Port Holdings has selected San Diego-based APS Technology Group for an automated gate system that utilizes optical character recognition at marine terminals in Manzanillo and Veracruz, according to an announcement.

APS Technology said in a statement that its OCR solution automates the container identification process at its exit gates via the collection of high-resolution images that the tech firm said would "increase throughput and enable remote equipment inspections."

"We selected the APS Gate OCR system as the better solution to help increase our productivity as well as to increase overall safety and security during gate operations," said Alejandro Plascencia, CIO of HPH Americas and Caribbean.
