DOT and women’s transport group sign MOU to mentor girls

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the U.S. Department of Transportation and the San Francisco chapter of the women’s transportation group WTS International that will allow D.O.T. professionals to engage in a mentorship program for girls that teaches infrastructure sector skills, according to an announcement.

The latest MOU is part of the Transportation YOU mentorship program geared towards preparing girls involved in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), in order to prepare them for infrastructure-related careers.

The D.O.T. -WTS International (San Francisco Chapter) MOU will allow D.O.T. employees volunteer time during work hours to provide classroom assistance, and to develop hands-on transportation-related activities and interaction, the WTS said in a statement.

“This is the support we’ve really needed, the kind that will take our efforts to get young girls on a STEM academic track and ultimately entering the transportation industry’s professional workforce to a whole new level. said Marcia Ferranto, WTS’s president and CEO.
