APM Terminals big winner of PMA Safety Awards

A big winner of Pacific Maritime Association Safety Awards was APM Terminals; taking five such designations at recent ceremonies held on the U.S. West Coast.

The terminal operator announced it won the Category A Southern California Terminal Safety Award, and the Coast Award for the safest terminal on the Pacific Coast by the Pacific Maritime Association.

The awards were announced at the PMA’s 63rd Annual West Coast Safety Southern California Area Award event, held on March 1 in Los Angeles and at the State of Washington Area Safety Awards in late February, where APM Terminals Tacoma was the winner of the Washington area’s Category C Container Terminal Safety Award and the Coast Award for Category C for the safest terminal on the Pacific Coast. APM Terminals Tacoma also won the award for the “greatest reduction in injury rates for the Washington Area.”

The PMA awards are based on reported injury rates per man-hours worked at terminal facilities that are separated into three categories according to size.
