Pelindo III signs agreement to enhance IT at ports

State-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia, known as Pelindo III, signed a memorandum of understanding with state airline Garuda Indonesia to help enhance the IT sector at the ports it manages.

Djarwo Sujanto, president director of Pelindo III, said the IT sector is crucial for the development of the 43 ports it currently manages, as well as its 10 subsidiaries and affiliates.

"The technology keeps developing and we want to learn and work with Garuda on how to better develop the IT system in our ports," Djarwo said

after the signing ceremony. He said that in the near future, all permits and clearances the firm issues, including the port clearance, would be managed through an online platform.

Djarwo said the enhanced IT systems would help to better develop flagship projects such as the Teluk Lamong Multipurpose Terminal and Java Industrial Port Estate, both located in East Java near the company’s Tanjung Perak port.
