Biden predicts growth in high tech jobs

Vice President Joe Biden told a crowd Thursday at Iowa State University that good-paying jobs were returning to the U.S. He urged increased spending on education to ensure facilitate the trend.

After touring a high-tech engineering facility at Iowa State, Biden addressed 500 students and faculty, advocating for a stronger focus on education and innovation to boost the U.S. economy.

The V.P. called for research and development tax breaks and lowered taxes to reward companies that bring operations to the U.S. from other countries.

"They are not coming home for patriotic reasons, they are coming home for sound business reasons, because we have the most skilled and productive engineers and workers in the world," Biden said.

Before the speech, Biden toured a research lab to see student projects. He was impressed by a project by student Tom Naert, who invented an agriculture sprayer that can apply proscribed amounts of fertilizer, reducing the amount applied.

Biden was accompanied by U.S. Agricultural Secretary Tom Vilsack, a former two-term Iowa governor.
