Liebherr unveils new double boom STS crane concept

Liebherr Container Cranes and GRUP TCB debuted a new double boom ship-to-shore crane in Turkey at the Aliago Container Terminal on Nemrut Bay.

Typically, in order to service a container ship on both sides of the jetty pier at Aliago, the port had to use mobile harbor cranes, which involve continual monitoring.

The new double boom ship-to-shore container crane can handle two vessels at the same time, increasing productivity rates per ship and enhancing traffic flow and safety on the pier.

The 360-meter-long Aliago pier will be outfitted with four double boom STS cranes, which allows the four cranes to work on the same vessel at the same time, topping 100 moves per hour. Alternatively, the cranes can handle two medium-sized ships simultaneously, at a rate of 50 moves per hour per vessel.

The Liebherr double boom STS crane can switch from one boom to another in a few minutes, and the machinery trolley and spreader rotate with the cabin, so the operator can directly face the ship.
