Regional carrier SeaLand, a new division of Maersk, opens in Florida

The Maersk Group held a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week to mark the opening of SeaLand, their new intra-Americas regional ocean carrier headquartered in Miramar, Florida. Governor Rick Scott and other officials were on hand for the ceremony, according to a company statement.

"The SeaLand headquarters act as the main hub for our business which spans throughout North, Central and South America, and the Caribbean," SeaLand CEO Craig Mygatt said.

SeaLand was launched on January 1, 2015 to service the Americas trade region, near-sourcing and demand for year round produce, which is growing due to the Panama Canal expansion. Reefer transportation is a particular focus of the ocean carrier.

new SeaLand headquarters with a celebratory ribbon cutting event," said Craig Mygatt, CEO of SeaLand. "We’re committed to developing meaningful industry relationships in the local communities where we work. Connecting the Americas, the people and region, is important to us."

Maersk bought SeaLand in 1999 but had not been using the name of the veteran company in its operations, according to South Florida Business News.
