Kohl’s to build new e-commerce DC near Dallas

Kohl’s Department Stores announced it would develop a 951,000 square-foot distribution center near Dallas, Texas to service the retailer’s e-commerce business in the central region of the U.S.

The facility is slated to open this summer and the company said it would initially be staffed 200 full-time employees, growing to approximately 400, including part-timers, over the next three years.

Kohl's said in a statement that its Kohls.com business increased 50 percent in 2010 and that it expects e-commerce sales to reach $1 billion this fiscal year.

When the DeSoto, Texas facility opens, Kohl's said it would be operating 13 U.S. distribution centers.

This is the company's fourth e-commerce distribution center, with the other centers located in San Bernardino, Calif., Monroe, Ohio and Edgewood, Maryland.
