Singapore’s Jurong Port installs largest port system in the world

Singapore’s Jurong Port is about to install the largest port-based solar system in the world, at a cost of $22.5 million.

Solar panels will be placed on over 95,000 square meters of warehouse roof space — which equates to about 13 football fields. At peak capacity, the panels are expected to generate 10 megawatts of electricity.

The development, a partnership with Sunseap and SolarPV Exchange, will provide power to the port, with excess being fed back to the grid.

"This project is testimony to our ongoing efforts to promote environmental sustainability," said Jurong

Port CEO Ooi Boon Hoe. "The project will help promote Singapore as a hub for green energy generation."

Jurong Port’s main terminal has 32 berths and receives over 17,000 ships a year. Within the terminal, there are 174,000 square meters of warehouse facilities.

The solar system is expected to be operational
this year.
