Terminal de Contenedores de Buenaventura (TCBuen) in Buenaventura, Colombia has selected APS Technology Group, Inc. to provide terminal-wide automated software solutions as part of the Spanish firm’s $250 million phase development of its marine and intermodal cargo operation on the Latin American country’s Pacific Coast near the Panama Canal, APS announced.

APS said in a statement that is the prime contractor for management, installation and maintain the turnkey project for five years, which will include its full Automated Gate System, STS Crane OCR and its MatchMaker tractor identification solutions for both the STS and RTG cranes.

APS said it would also included in the project two APS software solutions, X-Clerk and SureStow, as well as a real-time container inventory and Position Determination System (PDS) from Identec Solutions.

The first phase of the terminal facility is slated to open in January of 2011 with a projected first-year capacity of 260,000 TEUs, which would reportedly increase the total capacity of the Buenaventura port by 30 percent.

TCBuen is owned by Spain's top port terminal operator, Grup TCB. Grup TCB operates 13 port terminals and four rail terminals worldwide with over 3.3 million TEUs throughput per year.
