Crane with "largest lifting capacity in the world" launches ship

China’s drilling rig builder Honghua Offshore launched its first platform supply vessel, using the company’s "Honghai Crane," which it says has the largest lifting capacity of any movable gantry crane in the world.

Chairman Zhang Mi of Honghua Group said it was the first time the Honghai crane was used to lift the whole Platform Supply Vessel.

According to information found on the company’s website, the Honghai crane is able to lift 22,000-ton modules and work on 10 rigs at once in a single basin. Honghua says the crane, nearly 500 feet tall with a maximum lifting height of 200 feet, is 11 times more powerful than any other movable gantry crane.

The ship, launched at the company’s yard in Jiangsu, will be delivered to Nordic Offshore Supply Limited in early 2015.
