Hamburg Süd deploys Tableau software for data sharing

Shipping line and logistics firm Hamburg Süd has deployed Tableau Software's data analytics technology to expedite data access and collaboration between global staff at multiple sites, according to a statement released by the software company.

"As a large, global player, the principle challenge we face is being agile enough to maintain our flexibility," said Dr. Michael Lontke, global head of information technology and organization at Hamburg Süd. "For the vast majority of our customers, we are not only a ship operator but also a provider of solutions for the whole supply and logistics chain, which means it is critical that we are able to work together to use the data we have to make quick, informed decisions when the need arises."

Tableau's software is designed to help companies quickly analyze, visualize and share information. Lintke said the technology has helped staff at Hamburg Süd, responsible for moving more than 3.2 million TEUs in 2012, to work much faster and realize savings in terms of time and money, the statement said.
